• Start a new part file
• Copy three surfaces from the master model
(Paste Special, “as result with link”)
• Create an offset surface (3mm, forward)
• Split surface by the offset surface
• Split surface by the front parting surface
• Create a boundary curve
• Create a swept surface (90deg, 30mm)
• Create symmetry surfaces
• Insert a new geometrical set
• Split surface
• Create symmetry
• Apply material “Grey blue” to geometrical set.2
• Apply material “Black” to geometrical set.3
• Save File as “R8_topcover_a.catpart”

Continuing what we learnt in Tutorial 1A, we are
going to build the cabinet by the solidmodeling
technique plus some surface
modeling technique…
• Enter CATIA.
• Close all files.
• Select „Start/Mechanical Design/Part Design” on the
menu bar.
• If you‟re using Catia V5R16, uncheck “Enable Hybrid
Design” and then click “ok”.
• Select Tools/Options/infrastructure/Part
Infrastructure… then deselect the option “Enable
Hybrid Design inside part bodies and bodies”
To rename the tree:-
• Single-click “Part1” on the tree, right-click it, and then
select “Properties”.
• Modify Part Number as “cabinet” on the tab page “Product”.
• Select “ok” to exit .

CATIA tutorial 2 - Surface Modeling (Mouse)

• Double-click “Side View” sketch on the tree to
edit;
• Select and delete the curves not related to the
side view;
• Select all elements of the shape and click
“Translate” icon;
• Leave “Duplicate mode” unchecked;
• Click the point ;
• Then Click the origin of the sketch. (Now we
can see a portion of the sketch exceeds the yaxis,
so we need to fine-tune it);
• Select all elements of the shape and click
“Translate” icon again;
• Click the origin
• Enter 2.85mm as length and press “Enter” key
on the keyboard;
• Click another point on negative side of x-axis
• Click “Exit” icon to complete

To change the workbench:-
• Select „Start/Shape/Generative Shape
Design”on the menu bar
• Select “Insert/Geometrical Set” on the menu
bar and click ok to complete (Now a new branch
“Geometrical set” is created on the part tree,
which is used to store all reference curves and
surfaces)
To create a reference plane:-
• Click “plane” icon
• Select “Offset from plane” as plane type
• Select “yz plane” as Reference
• Click “Reverse Direction” in the command
window
• Enter 38mm as Offset value
• Click ok to complete

To create another sketch:-
• Click “Sketch” icon, then select “zx plane”
• Draw a vertical line on the left
(with one end touching x-axis)
• Click “Constraint” icon, then select the line
• Modify the length to 25.4mm (1inch)
• Click Exit to complete
To resize and relocate the reference picture:-
• Click “Right View” icon (or click “y” on the compass)
• Double-click “B&W Tiling” on the tree again
• Select the tab page “Rendering”
• Adjust the values “Scale U,V” and “Position U,V” until
the scale 1-2 is nearly of the same height as Sketch.2
• Keeping the Scale unchanged, adjust UV positions so
that the peak point of the image lies on the origin
• Click ok to complete

• Right-click on “Bottom View” on the tree and
select “Top View object/ Change Sketch
Support”;
• Select “Plane.1”;
• Click ok to confirm.
• Similarly, right-click “Section View1” and
select “Change Sketch Support”;
• Select “Plane.2”;
• Click ok to confirm.
• Similarly,
• “Section View2”  “Plane.3”
• “Front View”  “Plane.4”

• Click icon “3D curve”
• Select type “Through points”
• Switch to Front View
• Pick 3 points on the surface to create a curve
• Drag the green arrow to adjust the curvature
• Click ok to complete
• Repeat the above steps to create 3 more curves
(Trim surface by 3D curves)
• Click icon “Break surface or curve”
• Select “Break surface” as type
• Select the revolute surface as Element
• Multi-select the four curves as Limitation
• Switch View to Front View
• Select “along compass” as Projection
• Click “Apply”
• Click the middle portion to keep
• Click ok
